Lido di Camaiore - is a modern beach town and an important touristic center. Its wide sandy beach (4km) stretches between Viareggio to Marina di Pietrasanta. It's very easy to reach, next to a wonderful Promenade, rich in small gardens and flowers, full of little restaurants and shops, along which you'll find lots of private establishment where rent a sunumbrella and a chair. Along the Promendade there is also a cycling route.
Lido di Camaiore is also well known because of its villas with wide beautiful gardens, for its large streets, its squares and its gardens.
This town has many chances to spend the night in a hotel or in a B&B; many of them are open the whole year.
Just 9 km far from Lido di Camaiore, in the inland, there is Camaiore, in the middle of a large and green valley. This old city has lots of monuments, like the Roman Church of S. Maria Assunta, called "Collegiata" (XIII sec.), the Campanile Tower dating back to IV century and the Benedectian Abbey of VII century.
It is worth a visit to the Museum of Holy Art which has important objects, among them a flaming tapestry dating back to 1516, probably made by Peter de Pannemaker. For those who love archeology a visit to the museum of Camaiore, in Palazzo Tori, and to the museum of Viareggio, is a good chance to admire some prehistorical vestigias.
